Billboard magazine sings BW's praises as a 'Top Music Business School'

再一次, BW is the only Ohio school on the short list of top-tier programs in the world, with the magazine praising BW's innovative courses, industry connections and successful alumni.

Business Schools 2022 badge

Baldwin Wallace University is one of Billboard magazine's 2022 Top Music Business Schools. It's the second time BW has been chosen for the best list, which was last compiled in 2020.

As the only Ohio school chosen for the recognition, the BW program marries coursework in the University's celebrated Conservatory of Music with a foundation in business and entrepreneurship.

The magazine notes, "Billboard's top music business schools are chosen based on industry recommendations, alumni information provided by honorees from our multiple power lists, information requested from each school and nearly a decade of reporting on these programs."

Reflecting Cleveland clout

BW 音乐产业 students and faculty take advantage of Cleveland's vibrant music scene including this Spring 2022 field trip to the Beachland Ballroom. Both private and public institutions are featured on this year's list. And while many of the chosen schools are based in major metropolitan areas such as New York City, Los Angeles and Nashville, Billboard highlights BW's location near Cleveland's thriving music scene as a big plus.

"Our inclusion on this list reflects both the strength of BW and Cleveland's larger music economy, which continues to support the success of our program by keeping us plugged into fast-changing and emerging trends,” Dr. 肖恩墨菲, 音乐产业 area coordinator and assistant professor of arts management and entrepreneurship at BW.

Leveraging pros and partnerships

The magazine takes note of courses taught by local 音乐产业 pros, including recently added classes on 音乐产业 trends, taught by Mike Shea, founder of Alternative Press magazine, and music festival production, taught by the founder of Lambda Productions and producer for Bonnaroo, Governor's Ball and Outside Lands music festivals.

In addition to program partnerships with Cleveland's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Tragic Hero Records and indie music venues like Beachland Ballroom & 酒馆,BW是一个 educational affiliate of the national Grammy Museum.

Associate's to bachelor's degree bridge

A brand new "two plus two" degree partnership with Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), 从今年秋天开始, streamlines bachelor's degree completion for Tri-C recording arts and technology graduates who transfer to BW.

The latest "A2B" agreement maximizes transfer credits, guaranteeing junior status at BW when a student first earns Tri-C's Associate of Applied Arts (AAS) degree. Students gain technical recording knowledge at Tri-C and then add entrepreneurial, administrative and legal principles for success in the entertainment industry.

Applied learning experiences

With great internships and applied learning projects that build hands-on experience, students who major in either 音乐产业 or arts management and entrepreneurship may aspire to a whole range of music and arts careers, 包括艺术家, venue and tour management, digital music marketing and distribution, and independent entrepreneurship, 仅举几个例子.
